I’m the son of a Sicilian mother, a Scottish and German father, and an English stepfather. In temperament and habits, I take after my stepfather; in looks, I take after my biological father; but in terms of food culture and interest, I’m definitely my mother’s son.
In addition, travel has broadened my culinary horizons. I’ve enjoyed the local cuisine of a number of parts of the United States, and spent some time overseas, learning, cooking and growing.

I’ve recently lost an eye, and part of the other; I am legally blind. This means that pictures will usually not be my work. My wife An, who has a travel blog at Driving Reasons, is my usual photographer.
